When I started checking around for places to go to this year all the standards were revoked. By standards I mean Paris, London, Sydney, LA, New York. Those cities are all cool and have their place for anyone who loves to travel. However this year I want to go somewhere that most of the world barely knows. So I looked to the guide for the independent traveler, BootsnAll.com. They put out their Top 10 destinations for 2008 and their choices made me reconsider where I would go this year.
Buenos Aires, Argentina, Chiang Mai, Thailand, Palermo, Sicily, and Placencia, Belize just to name a few. These cities conjure up the idea that people still have places to go where they don't speak English and it might be a challenge to get there. Or it might be a challenge to eat something that resembles what I know of as edible but tastes great anyway.
Traveling and exploring are why I got my passport. Why did you get yours?
Have you been searching for a hostel bed while traveling an not known where you are or where you want to be?
Are you going to a new city and want to find a hostel that is near the city's main attractions?
The answer is probably yes to both if you have done any type of independent travel. Now there is solution to these problems. BootsnAll the ultimate resource for independent travel has created a new Hostels page with an interactive map that allows you to see where the hostels are in many cities around the world and they are adding new ones every day.
For instance if you are going to check out the coffee shops in Amsterdam but aren't sure about where to stay that will get you within stumbling distance the handy map will help you decide if you can make it.
So now that those questions have been answered now all you have to do is ask for the time off, save some money, and get out of the country for a while.
